Festo Servo-Pneumatic Controllers
Festo Servo-Pneumatic Controllers deliver closed-loop control for pneumatic actuators, converting standard pneumatic drives into controllable axes with position and/or force feedback. They enable applications that require accurate positioning, gentle deceleration and high repeatability—all with the cost advantage of pneumatics.
These controllers support a variety of pneumatic drives (piston-rod, rodless, rotary) and integrate into modern automation networks via fieldbus or Ethernet. They offer diagnostics, rapid commissioning and flexible configuration for OEMs and machine builders.
⭐ Important: Servo-Pneumatic Controllers enable pneumatic drives to function with precision positioning, force control, and motion-axis integration, bridging the gap between standard pneumatics and servo systems.
Design & Functionality
- These modules are designed to control pneumatic drives by reading feedback (from encoders, position sensors) and modulating valves or proportional directional valves to achieve target motion or force.
- Key functional features include:
• Position & force control — users can define target positions, path segments or force levels.
• Soft-Stop capability — smooth motion into end-positions without impact, reducing vibration and increasing cycle speed.
• Fieldbus/Ethernet connectivity — supports modern automation networks and allows remote monitoring, diagnostics and control.
• Modular architecture — controllers can manage multiple axes or drives, simplifying machine design and reducing components. - These controllers transform pneumatic drives into fully controllable motion axes, offering automation flexibility previously reserved for electric servo drives.
Total Crossed Beams
(Adapted concept: full motion control coverage rather than literal beams)
- The controller covers the full motion cycle: from start to target position or from zero to defined force.
- This provides holistic control of the drive’s behaviour, enabling repeatable, programmable motion sequences.
Beam Pitch Options
(Interpreted as variants in control types, axes count, connectivity)
- Single-axis and multi-axis modules (for example up to 8 axes on one controller).
- Variants may include end-position only controllers (Soft-Stop) or full axis controllers with force/position control.
- Connectivity options vary: digital IO, CAN bus, Ethernet, fieldbus variants.
⭐ Important: The variety of controller types enables selection from simple end-position control to complex multi-axis force/position control depending on application complexity.
Intrinsic Synchronism
- Internal algorithms synchronise the pneumatic drive response, valve actuation and feedback loop to ensure stable, repeatable axis motion.
- This ensures minimal deviation, consistent performance, and reliable integration into machine systems.
Operational Advantages
- Precise position and force control – enables pneumatics to work like servo axes.
- Soft-Stop and smooth motion – reduces wear, vibration and cycle time.
- Fast commissioning and diagnostics – simplifies machine setup and maintenance.
- Multi-axis and network connectivity – supports modern automation architectures.
- Applications: Servo-pneumatic positioning, grippers, conveyors, rotary indexing, packaging systems, robots—any system requiring controlled pneumatic motion.
